Hidden within the Training Manual are 34 references to find, some more difficult & obscure than others.

- Front Cover "Solo journalling (for up to 4 players)" is a (slightly tenuous) callback to H2G2's "Trilogy in Five Parts"
- Page 9 "Bureaucratic" was a particular feature of the Vogon race
- Page 10 In "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" Fenchurch floats a couple of mm off the floor.
- Page 10 "Salmon" was an obscure reference to "Salmon of Doubt", a post-humously released collection of unpublished material by Douglas Adams.
- Page 14 Vogon's were also keen on terrible poetry

- Star Trek (TV series / films)
- Page 1 "Second star to the right and straight on till morning" were the directions Kirk gave Sulu when ordered to return to Earth to be decommissioned.
- Page 9 Qapla' (styled as "K'Plagh" in the citation on the opening quote) is Kligon for 'Success'. It's also appears to mean 'good luck', 'have a nice day', and 'kill Kirk' among many other things depending on how the script writers were feeling.
- Page 9 Checkov says "guess who's coming to dinner" when Klingons are invited to the Enterprise in Star Trek II: The Undiscovered Country.
- Page 9 Holodeck malfunctions were a big thing on The Next Generation
- Page 9 As were mystery illnesses, usually triggered by Lieutenant Barclay.

- Page 6 E115 is the fuel that Bob Lazar claimed he was working with on Area 51 to power UFOs. The element was later synthesised in a lab and name Moscovium.

- Page 7 The number 137 (in the quote citation) is a number that's been thought to be linked to a grand theory of everything by physicists since the early 1900s.

- Page 1 Kirk was quoting Peter Pan's directions to Neverland in Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country.
- Planck constant (physical constant)
- Page 1 The revision number of the Training Manual quoted also happens to be Planck's constant.
- Sherlock (TV series)
- Page 10 In the show when Sherlock thinks a bunch of glowing words, letters, and numbers appear in the air.
- Soul Music (book)
- Page 10 In Terry Pratchett's 'Soul Music' Death describes the colour of infinity to be a duck egg blue.
- The First Men in the Moon (book)
- Page 13 In H. G. Well's early science fiction novel two men end up on the moon after one of them builds a spaceship in his shed. It's covered in grey fungus.
- The Pleiades / M45 (star constellation)
- Page 5 The green dice are arranged to match my favourite star constellation, the seven sisters.
